Finding a Nursing Home for your loved one or family member is never easy. It’s something that the average person doesn’t think about, but when that day comes you want only the best for them and a place that will cater to their needs. To find the perfect home for your loved one ask yourself the hard questions: What qualities are you looking for in a Nursing Home? How will you fund this move? Will your family member need round the clock assistance or only minimal assistance with daily activities? Do they have special dietary needs? Will they need rehab services? Do they need a home-like environment or a hospital-like environment? Would a different type of service be more suitable? (adult daycare, assisted living, senior center)?
Your first action should be to research homes in your area. This can help make visits easier and help your loved one adapt to their new environment. Once you have selected a few homes you think would be right make it a chore to visit each one and at different times of the day. The staff and the activity level may not be the same. While there make sure to ask questions of the staff you might have. If you’re struggling to find the right questions to ask involve your loved one and come up with a list of issues you have the staff could answer. Perhaps your family member is concerned about the quality of the food while you are concerned about them getting out of bed at least several times a day.
